Nebraska Families Need Paid Family Medical Leave
This year, Senator Sue Crawford introduced LB 305 to Adopt the Paid Family Medical Leave Insurance Act in the Nebraska Legislature.
Securing paid family leave for families in our state would show the rest of the country that in Nebraska:
- We work hard to provide for our families.
- We value caring for our children and loved ones.
- We want to compete nationally for the best talent and high paying jobs.
- We build strong communities statewide.
Nebraskans cannot afford to choose between their paychecks and their family - especially when they need them most.
Whether it's a new parent who struggles to pay the bills during the first months with a newborn, an individual undergoing cancer treatment, or a son or daughter who needs to be there for their parent in their last weeks of life - Nebraskans deserve to have access to paid family leave.
Let's show our elected officials and the rest of the country how much we value families in Nebraska.
Employers in our state and around the country recognize the benefits of paid family leave. Industry leaders are starting to shift their policies toward a more inclusive and common sense family leave framework. However, only 13 percent of private sector workers in the United States have access to paid family leave through their employers, and only 40% have access to personal medical leave through an employer-provided temporary disability program.
